Baba Shadi Shaheed

Hazrat Sheikh Baba Shadi Shaheed Rehmat Ullah Alae (real name Raja Shadab Khan) was a Sufi Saint. He is thought to be the first Chib Rajput convert to Islam from the hand of Hazrat Pir Sufi Jaffar (R.A.) also known as Meera Pak from Bharot Sharif. During the reign of Ibrahim Lodi. He was a famed wise man who was requested to treat the ailing emperor in Delhi. This ultimately resulted in his death as he was ordered to marry the emperor's daughter but refused to stay in Delhi. His tribe, the Chib Rajputs of Kashmir and Punjab come to his shrine in Jandi Chontra in Bhimber to pay their respects and ritualistically celebrate the births of their children. In the last few decades, the popularity of the shrine has grown among non-tribe members due to the belief that visiting the shrine will help childless couples to bear children.

The first of the tribe to become a Muhammadan was one Sur Sadi, who died a violent death in Aurangzeb's reign. He is still venerated as a martyr, and the Muhammadan Chib offer the scalp locks of their male children at his tomb, till which ceremony the child is not considered a true Chibh, nor is his mother allowed to eat meat.[1]
